Recap: HEAL Hour – Understanding the Health and Healthcare Experiences of Survivors of Child Sexual Exploitation

On November 4, 2025, HEAL Trafficking hosted the latest installment of the HEAL Hour, our free learning series offering practical tools, expert insights, and community connection on human trafficking response. This month’s session, Understanding the Health and Healthcare Experiences of Survivors of Child Sexual Exploitation, featured Dr. Amy Farrell and Amelia Wagner from Northeastern University in conversation with HEAL’s Nani Cuadrado.

On November 4, HEAL Trafficking hosted a HEAL Hour exploring the health and healthcare experiences of survivors of child sexual exploitation (CSEC). The session featured Dr. Amy Farrell and Amelia Wagner from Northeastern University in conversation with HEAL’s Nani Cuadrado, bringing together research and practice to strengthen healthcare responses to child exploitation.

Dr. Farrell and Ms. Wagner shared key findings from their recent research on the physical and mental health impacts of CSEC, patterns of healthcare utilization, and barriers to accessing care. Their discussion with Nani Cuadrado highlighted the importance of trauma-informed, survivor-centered approaches and offered practical strategies for providers working with children and youth impacted by exploitation.

The conversation sparked thoughtful dialogue among participants, reflecting a shared commitment to bridging research and real-world application in healthcare settings.
