Train the Trainer Academy
HEAL’s two-day Train the Trainer Academy, held annually since 2019, equips health educators with essential knowledge and teaching skills to train other health professionals in their communities to respond to human trafficking.
Overview
Our faculty includes individuals with lived experience of trafficking and expertise in health care, trafficking, and medical education. The program is currently 100% virtual.
After attending, you will be able to:
- Teach a public health approach to human trafficking that is rooted in survivor- and trauma-informed care
- Recognize how to create effective and engaging adult learning environments
- Evaluate your personal training strengths and areas for growth
- Develop strategies to enhance human trafficking response efforts in your community
- Expand your community of clinician-educators passionate about eradicating human trafficking

The HEAL Train the Trainer Academy is the leading Academy equipping professionals to train health systems and workers on health care responses to trafficking. Our program has been recognized for its excellence at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Conference and featured in the Academic Medicine journal. The HEAL Train the Trainer Academy is designed for individuals from all sectors who are committed to educating health professionals about human trafficking. Whether you are experienced in training or new to the field, our program provides valuable insights and skills to enhance your ability to deliver impactful training on human trafficking.
There are no prerequisites to attend the Academy. Whether you’re an experienced trainer or brand new to the role, we’ll meet you where you are. To make the most of our time together, you’ll receive supplemental reading in advance, helping you dive right into discussions and hands-on activities.
Yes. We offer the following discounts:
- Early registration – Save by registering before the early registration deadline.
- Group rate – Reduced rate for groups of 3 or more registering together.
- Lived experience rate – A reduced rate is available for participants with lived experience. We value the expertise that lived experience brings and are committed to making the program accessible.
